Be Ye Doers

Many members of the church feel that they are pressed for time. Their lives are filled with so many things, such as their jobs, school activities, sports, plays, and television. It seems that there is just not enough time to do all the things we want to do. We don’t have time for meditation. Everything is hurry, hurry. We must pause during this busy time and think and begin to sort out what is most important in our lives.

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” (James 1:22). Sometimes Christians will work out a time to attend worship service and spend a few minutes worshiping God each week and tell themselves that they have done all that God expects of them. But what about being doers of the word? Are we completely fulfilling that command when we attend worship services or does this command involve much more?

The word of God teaches us that there are many things that Christians must do. What about the Great Commission? “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:19-20). There are many things that Christians must do to be doers of the word. We must study the word and be obedient to those things that God would have us to do. Only in this way can we be doers of the word.
