We all are looking for ways to deal with the trials and tribulations in our life each day. The book of James provides us with practical strategies from Scripture which allow us to overcome challenges, grow spiritually, and help others with struggles.
James 1:1-7 teaches us we can profit from trials! This section of Scripture says, “James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad; My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man unstable in all his ways.”
James teaches suffering develops perseverance! James 5:11 says, “Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—-that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.” Job wasn’t perfect but he didn’t quit, neither should we. God provides us with comfort during our difficult times as we press on.
James teaches us perseverance makes us complete! James 1:4 demonstrates that “perfect” means “complete.” Perseverance trains us to be patient which equals maturity which is needed for the daily barriers we face. When we strive to seek God we will become complete.
James directs us to grow our faith as we seek to separate ourselves from the world, to stay away from trials and temptations, and to become doers of the Word. Let’s allow our faith to grow!
