The Beatles

[310 words]

For a couple of weeks now, people have been celebrating the influence of the Beatles on the music industry. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the “British Invasion” that shook the foundation of the entertainment industry in our nation. Since the Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan television program, their influence has been felt. Many modem-day musicians point to John, Paul, George, and Ringo as inspirations in their musical careers. Even today, millions of people continue to pump money into Beatle paraphernalia. It is truly an amazing feat for a musical group to continue to be relevant 50 years after debuting in our country. However, I wonder if the story will be different 2,000 years from now?

If this world stands for another 2,000 years, will the Beatles still be exercising influence? Will musicians be pointing to the Beatle’s style as a contributing factor to their music? Will people be buying posters and t-shirts of the Fab Four? Or will the world have long forgotten the Beatles as they have so many others?

What is the point of all this rambling about a rock group? Just this: Jesus Christ and His Word have stood the test of time for 2,000 years, Christ has been influencing the hearts and thoughts of man for 20 centuries. The world has been able to reap the benefits of the Wisdom of God for 200 decades! Musicians come and go. Authors, movie stars, and artists do the same. Yet as we gather together on the Lord’s Day, we do so because of one man and His ability to reach throughout all times to touch the hearts of man. May we never be guilty of taking this for granted. May we always strive to bring glory and honor to Him so that the next generation may feel His love and mercy.
