Did You Know This About Nahum?

[130 words]

One hundred years after Nineveh repented at the preaching of Jonah, the prophet Nahum was sent to deliver a message of coming destruction because the Ninevites had returned to their old ways.

Nineveh boasted a defensive wall that was 100 feet high and wide enough that three chariots could ride side by side. There was a moat around the wall that was 150 feet wide and 60 feet deep. That seems impenetrable! Who could destroy it? The answer, of course, is God!

Nahum prophesied that Nineveh would end “with an overflowing flood” (Nahum 1:8). That happened when the Tigris River overflowed its banks and breached the city’s wall. The Babylonians invaded through the opening of the massive wall in 62 BC, plundering the city and setting it on fire.
