The book of Obadiah is the shortest book in the Old Testament, and the only one-chapter book in Old Testament. Obadiah’s message was was one of the coming judgment upon the Edomites, who were the descendants of Esau. 

The Edomites had opposed the Jews for a long time. In the 5th century BC they were forced from their native land by the Nabateans, and moved to the southern part of Palestine. They became known as the Idumeans. Herod the Great, who was king during the birth of Jesus Christ, was an Idumean.
