“During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission” (Hebrews 5:7).
What is the one thing an omnipotent, omniscient, and omni-present God not know how to do? Submit! How would He? Yet, His creation that is made in His image is called to do that very thing. So, if God would truly have the full experience of knowing what it was like to be made like us by putting on flesh, He had to have all that goes along with it … and that means as a man submitting to His heavenly Father. The Son who had committed no sin needed to submit to the Father and did so with “loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death.” Since that was His case, how much should we who have sinned need to follow His lead in offering up prayers and petitions through God incarnate who not only set an example for us but made our salvation from death possible by His example? Jesus was God to be our Savior and man to be our sacrifice. We must yield like Christ to our Father’s will over our own.
Do you submit to God’s will or insist on your own?
