Signals

[202 words]

While driving to work while the traffic was really slow, I noticed a garden umbrella behind a fence that carried the name of a beer company. One could assume that the owner really liked that brand of beer; or maybe it was a free gift which he took advantage of. The point is, it sent a signal to all who passed that way.

After a very short conversation with a Samaritan woman at a well, she said to Jesus, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet” (John 4:19). Jesus’ words sent a strong signal to her. We also send signals that people perceive or recognize. They see fear, anger, hurt in our faces, words and actions. They can also see love, compassion and godliness.

We all send signals that others read. What signals are you sending?

• Are you letting your light shine so that men may glorify God (Matt 5:16)?

• Are you glorifying God in your body (1 Cor. 6:20)?

• Are people glorifying God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ (2 Cor. 9:13)?

Let us do our best to send strong spiritual signals to all around us that God may be glorified.
