When the Hebrew writer quoted Jeremiah (Chapter 13) concerning the new covenant that Jesus brought, he writes, “For I will be merciful to their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more” (Heb 8:12). This is in stark contrast to the old covenant where the Hebrew writer states, “But in those (animal) sacrifices, there is a reminder of sins year by year” (Heb 10:3). Why? “For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins” (Heb. 10:4).
The Hebrew Christians were reminded of a wonderful blessing. When God forgives us under the new covenant, He strikes it from the record! That is enormous, wonderful, fantastic and magnificent. We need God’s grace and mercy. We can continue in our relationship with Him, filled with the hope of eternal life. He will be merciful to us and will remove our sin from the record. Praise God for His love.
