God is the rightful King of us all. As Acts 17:24 says, “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth.” Since God made you, and all you have is because of Him, He is your King. I encourage you to be okay with that, because God is a good King.
Or, you could trade God’s rule for another. There are many things out there that would rule your life if you let them. Drugs. Peer pressure. Perhaps an overbearing employer. You could also be a slave to your own desires, I suppose. Many competing powers rise up as usurpers to God’s throne. Will you let them rule? I can tell you this: no other will be as benevolent a ruler as the Lord. No other has such good plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Know that outside the boundaries of God’s kingdom is a sad and hopeless place. Friends, let God be King. He is the best one.
