You’ve Never Tried It

[198 words]

I recall when I was a boy that sometimes I would turn my nose up at foods that Mama would offer. The answer Mom would give would be, “You’ve never even tried it,” followed by, “Try it; you might like it!”

It has come to mind many times about those who find Christianity so objectionable that they have never even tried it. Their lives have been lived in disbelief and disobedience, and many times with very sorrowful consequences, yet they seldom think that maybe they should try Christianity.

The apostle Paul encouraged us to give our lives to Christ in full self-sacrifice so that we may “prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Rom. 12:1-2). The skeptic who resents the religion of Christ will never know what he is missing! It is the one who yields his life to Christ, and allows God’s word to renew his mind, that is able in his day-to-day experience to prove the validity and power of the Christian life. As the Psalmist said, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psa. 34:8). Don’t turn your nose up at something you haven’t even tried!
