In July 2025, a lightning strike in Jeffersonville, Ohio, killed 14 cattle. The cattle were found dead around the base of a tree, likely struck during a storm, resulting in an estimated economic loss of nearly $40,000. This disaster is a sad reminder of the danger of gathering under trees during a lightning storm. As I think about this disaster, I am reminded of another tragedy that took place at another tree that also involved death, but in the end brought life. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
First Peter 2:24 tells us, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”
At the cross, Jesus willingly stood in the storm of sin for us. Because of His death on the tree, we can find true forgiveness and life, not just for today, but for eternity.
