On January 6, 1941, Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed Congress about the state of the war in Europe. As he closed, he said that he looked forward to a world founded upon four essential freedoms:
• Freedom of speech
• Freedom of worship
• Freedom from want
• Freedom from fear
Upon consideration, is not this what Jesus offers? He says we can come boldly to the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16); we are priests in God’s temple, offering up spiritual sacrifices (1 Peter 2:5, 9); He promises to care for us (Matthew 6:33; Philippians 4:19); He fills us with courage (Matthew 10:18–20).
