Confidence!

[234 words]

“You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand” Psalm 16:11.

Looking back on it, I realize, of course, that the compost pile was really just at the end of a long backyard on the edge of our woods, but to a kid with an active imagination, I was Ichabod Crane waiting for the headless horseman to leap out of the darkness to take me. As the oldest, it was often my job to take the food scraps out to the pile … and it was dark by 4:30 p.m. most of the year! I recall taking confidence in reciting Psalm 23, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me…” In that psalm, as well as others, a believer’s confidence in the Lord is praised, but God does not need our praise. As Paul says on Mars Hill, “And he is not served by human hands, as he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.” Rather, it is we who benefit, who are brought to greater faith, when we express our confidence in God’s faithfulness. Many of the psalms do just this, and God knows that we need to know He is with us always.

Are you confident in Him?
