The Wolf Of Wall Street

[344 words]

On December 25, 2013, The Wolf of Wall Street hit the big screens. As soon as it came out it set a record. This movie sets the mark for the most uses of the “f-word” ever in a U.S. feature film (USA Today). This movie uses this word a sickening 506 times! Seeing as how this is a 180-minute movie, this means that, on average, this word occurs 1.4 times every 30 seconds throughout the movie. This isn’t even including all the other bad words used in the movie. According to KidsinMind.com, there are at least 148 other curse words used. There is also extremely graphic sexual content and heavy drug and alcohol use.

What is especially concerning about this movie is the fact that it’s receiving high reviews. This movie has received an 8.8 out of 10 by over 25,000 users on IMBd.com. Even worse, one source conducted a survey where 45 percent (2,555 votes) said they would let their children watch this movie (commonsensemedia.org).

It’s sad and discouraging to see just how corrupt our society is becoming. Listen to what God said about a similar society long ago. “Were they ashamed because of the abomination they have done? They were not even ashamed at all; they did not even know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among tho se who fall; at the time that I punish them, they shall be cast down, says the Lord” (Jeremiah 6:15).

I fear we are coming dangerously close to being a people who has also forgotten how to blush, if we haven’t already.

Let’s never compromise our morals to be entertained by unrighteousness. At Ephesians 5:11 says. “Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them.” Not only should we skip this terrible movie, but let’s also spread the word about the disgustingly sinful content it contains.

Let’s be a voice for good and a light for Christ (Matthew 5:16). What we say and stand for can make a difference.
