[178 words] In 3 John 9-10 we read John writing, “I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us. Therefore, if I come, I will call to mind his deeds which he does, prating against us with malicious words. And not content with that, he himself does not receive the brethren, and forbids those who wish to, putting them out of the church.” Diotrephes had placed himself in the top position of the church and made unscriptural decisions on behalf of all. To reject the apostles (and their writings) was to reject Jesus Christ Himself (Luke 10:16). Jesus Christ is the only One that has preeminence in the church and over everything (Col. 1:18).
