I once read an article about how termites had eaten through a large stack of pamphlets entitled “Control of Termites” in the mailing room of the University of California at Berkeley. One would naturally expect that university buildings would be free of termites, because at such a center of higher education so much is known of termites and the destruction they cause. But it is one thing to have the information concerning the control of termites in a pamphlet, and quite another thing to make a practical application of that information!
How fortunate we are to have the Bible in its entirety! But many people’s Bibles just lay in their homes unread, and disaster will eventually ensue. Other folks read their Bibles – they know the information in them, but they do not apply it to their lives. Again, spiritual disaster will be the result.
James warns, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (Jas. 1:22). Jesus, after teaching His disciples, gave this advice, “If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them” (John 13:17). Also, note these words from the Savior, “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46).
God has given us some great advice in His Word on how to keep from damaging our lives. How ironic it would be for the devil to destroy our souls when we have the solution at our fingertips.
