In Philippians 1:21, Paul says, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” He follows that by discussing that in his present circumstances (being in prison) he could die, and he really doesn’t know whether he would choose life or death if it was his decision. Because if he departs, he gets to “be with Christ!”
Death would not be a disappointment for Paul, because the Destination toward which he directs his life is to be with Christ eternally. And that eternal blessing will only come about through his death or the Lord’s return!
What are you doing with your life? What goal are you pursuing? When you get where you are going, where will you be? These are eternally important questions that demand our attention.
Contrary to popular “religious” speech, all roads do not lead to heaven!
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).
Jesus prepared his apostles for His physical departure from them:
“‘In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way where I am going.’ Thomas said to Him, ‘Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me’” (John 14:2-6).
Where do you want your journey to end? Jesus has prepared a place for His prepared people!
