“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16:8).
When Kerry and I got married, I recognized an incredible responsibility of someone beside myself that I was now responsible to and for! When we found out we were “with child” the first time, I felt the incredible responsibility of caring and providing for a life I chose to bring into this world. As our children grew, we felt the responsibility to prepare them to live life apart from us and be able to function as responsible adults.
You understand the concerns and stresses of life—whatever your circumstance. And so you take great effort to help your spouse and your children—academically, socially, professionally…
How about spiritually? Jesus doesn’t pull any punches when He tells His disciples that if you attain the highest level of accomplishment in worldly pursuits, but lose your soul, you have gained nothing of True, Eternal Value!
Parents/ Grandparents: What priority have you placed upon your personal relationship to God? And what priority are you teaching and demonstrating to your children and grandchildren? How committed do they see you to the Body of Christ? How consistent is your attendance and your involvement? How important is the conversation about Jesus Christ in your home and everyday life?
Do spiritual responsibilities take priority over worldly activities, or is it the other way around? If I or my children reach the pinnacle of worldly success but forfeit our soul in the process, what do we really gain?
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33-34).
