Got Faith?

[192 words]

“This righteousness from God comes through faith inJesus Christ to all who believe … “ Romans 3:22.

Having already established that there is an obedience that comes faith, that faith is something we do, and that we must not rest in what we’ve done or who we think we are in God’s sight, the third chapter of Romans holds up God’s complete faithfulness and righteousness in contrast to our complete lack of these qualities. All of us are being held accountable for having been found sinners and fallen short of the glory of God. Thus, we need Jesus’ righteousness, made possible because of His atoning work on the cross. In this beautiful picture that is painted for us, the blood of Christ stretches in both directions, fully into the past and fully into the future, to redeem us, fully justifying us who have come into that sacrifice and taking away our boasting. Paul has laid out mankind’s greatest problem and God’s greatest solution for it. Like the song says: “not because of who we are, but because of what He’s done; not because of what we’ve done, but because of who He is.”
