When Jesus and the disciples were caught in a storm on Galilee, they woke Him up, and He calmed the storm. He then said to them; “Why are you afraid? How is it that you have no faith?” (Mark 4:40).
The word for fear here is “deilos” – dread; timid; fearful, or cowardice (Never used in a good sense). Fear of God is “phobas” – originally “flight.” Sometimes we run into the storms of life and we react with “dread,” which perhaps tells God we are lacking in faith.
He understands normal fear, but wants us to hold on to faith. God does not want us to be paralyzed with fear. He wants us to remember our faith when we run into problems.
May God help us to grow in faith.
