Some have referred to the “God of the Old Testament” as a God of anger and the “God of the New Testament” as a God of love, as if there are (or have been) two Gods. If we have read through the Old Testament without getting any glimpses of God’s great patience, love, and mercy, we need to take another look. It is true God is consistently presented in Scripture as One to be taken seriously. He means what He says and we ought to take Him at His word whether it be His promises or His warnings. However, even His warnings are an expression of love because He desires to direct us back toward Him and into the Way that leads to eternal glory. That is why David wrote :
“All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies” (Psalm 25:10 ESV).
God has always had our good in mind. He is the provider of good things. Let us continue to respond to His Ways in a way that leads us His Way.
Have a great day knowing the great love God has for us!
