What Defines You?

[306 words]

Are you known for your knowledge of the great outdoors, your keen political awareness, the expertise in your profession or your ability to understand what it takes to build a superb athletic team? I enjoy hearing good hunting stories, listening to whether or not we are on the right track in our country, and seeing the excitement when a great game has been played. Do we allow these things and other passions of ours make us who we are or define us?

Do we identify with the One who died for us? As followers of Christ, we should be known as Christians. Acts 11:26 says, “And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.”

Do we seek to be like our mentor or the only One who understands us? As followers of Christ, we understand He is our standard and understands us. Hebrews 4:15 says, “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Do we seek man’s opinions or follow God’s Instruction? Matthew 7:21 says, “Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in Heaven.”

Do we mirror the language of the world or are we mindful of Creator when we communicate with others? Colossians 4:6 says, “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”

If someone spent a day with us, would they know our interests or understand our commitment to Christ? What defines you?
