Moses was God’s man! He delivered the Law of God, the first five books of the Bible (John 1:17), wrote a number of Psalms, and led God’s people out of bondage and through their wanderings in the desert (Ex. 3:10). Many over the years have brought to our attention that Moses’ life is divided into periods of forty years: the first forty years he is trained in Egypt with the world telling him of his own potential and greatness, the second forty years learning humility with a few sheep in the desert (Acts 7:22-29), and the last forty years leading God’s wandering sheep out of bondage and through the desert toward the promise land on God’s terms (Ex. 4:24ff), not his own (Acts 7:30-44; Deut. 34:7).
We all need to be reminded regularly that even though we belong to God, as a man or woman of God in Christ, salvation is and always will be on God’s terms!
1. Salvation is found in Christ Jesus alone, not in anyone else, especially ourselves (Acts 4:12).
2. We may listen to the world and try to rescue/deliver/save ourselves or others, like Moses did (Acts 7:25), but the reality is we cannot (Gal. 2:21; 3:3).
3. So, like Moses (Ex. 4:24; Num. 12:3), we need to remember that being a man or woman of God means that we must humble ourselves before the Lord in submission to His commands for our life (James 4:10; 1 Pet. 5:5-6).
4. We all have obedience that we need to surrender to Him who loves us and commands us in Christ Jesus (1 John5:3-4).
5. God grant us the humility to love you more than we love ourselves, in Jesus we pray, amen!
