I was once complaining in a class about the expensive cologne people gave me. I said I could smell the fragrance for a bit of time, but then it went away.
One of our sweet ladies said no, it did not go away. I might not be smelling it, but those around me would. That was important to me. And there is a spiritual application.
The good we do we might forget all about and not be conscious of its continuing impact. Ecclesiastes 11:1 reminds us, “Cast your bread upon the waters: for you will find it after many days.” We can be totally unaware of its travel, but it returns. Our good efforts often are this way.
