Nothing New Under the Sun

[261 words]

“That which has been is what will be. That which is done is what will be done. And there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecc. 1:9).

Looking back at the history of the church in the first century, the Bible Records many warnings against those who teach false doctrines (Gal. 1:6-9; 2 Tim. 4:1-4; 2 Peter 2:1-3; 1 John 4:1; Jude 4; and many others). It should not surprise us that there is still much false teaching that occurs today. Yet Paul wrote the Galatians that if anyone preached a different gospel from what he had been given, they were accursed, even if it was an angel from heaven (Gal. 1:8). Specifically, Paul was referring to some who wanted to bind parts of the law of Moses on Christians.

We still have that same problem today. Some want an elevated priesthood for their preachers, but Peter said all Christians are priests of God (1 Peter 2:5). Many want to mix the law of Moses with the covenant of Christ, but Moses’ Law was nailed to the cross (Col. 2:14-17; Heb. 7:11-12). We also have a problem with those who want to reverse what Jesus said and make the way to heaven wide and broad, and the road to hell narrow with few going there (Matt. 7:13-14).

There is nothing new under the sun. Life outside of Christ is vanity. God’s word is still truth. We must tune out the world and listen to him!
