Involvement

[320 words]

The Lord’s church consists of saved sinners who have entered into Christ through gospel obedience (Eph. 5:23; 2 Tim. 2:10; Mk. 16:15-16; 2 Thess. 1:8).

Anyone who has entered into Christ is a “new creation” (2 Cor. 5:17). Christians are God’s “workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Eph. 2:10).

One of the benefits of coming together on the first day of the week to worship God is that we “stir one another to love and good works” (Heb. 10:24).

Christians are to be active and involved creatures. As stated above, we have been “created in Christ Jesus for good works.” We were not created to be spectators or by-standers in the Lord’s vineyard. Our Lord “went about going good” (Acts 10:38), and so should we. Be involved.

As the song goes, ”To the work! To the work! We are servants of God, let us follow the path that our Master has trod; with the balm of His counsel our strength to renew, let us do with our might what our hands find to do…To the work! To the work! There is labor for all…”

What can you do? What will you do? What should you be doing for the Lord? Christianity is about serving. Christ was a servant (Mt. 20:28; Phil. 2:7).

So, how can we serve and involve ourselves in the Lord’s kingdom? Teach a Bible class; provide food for the monthly youth meal; study with the lost; encourage others through cards, phone calls, or visits; volunteer at the food pantry; prepare communion trays for worship; meet guests in our worship assemblies and make them feel welcome; give generously, purposefully, and cheerfully to the Lord’s work.

There is much to do! Use your talents; be an involved servant; make a difference in the kingdom.
