Take some snow and form it into a ball. Roll the ball downhill and it will get bigger and bigger. The faster it rolls, the faster it becomes a danger. It’s even possible for a deadly avalanche start from the effects of just one small snowball.
Take a small problem in a church such as a growing dislike by a few for doing good works. Ignore it and the problem will spread. More and more people will stop doing good works for King Jesus. Soon, the entire congregation is a massive body of inactivity.
But there’s more to it than just a dislike for good works. The base problem is a lack of love. Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments,” (John 14:15). A failure to do good works is a failure to love Jesus because good works were commanded by the Lord and by the apostles who taught by his authority (Ephesians 2:10; Titus 2:7-14; Hebrews 10:24).
Inactivity is the killer of churches. Who could believe the Lord Jesus will bless a church that is unloving and unwilling to obey his word?
If one looks a, large, faithful congregations of the Lord’s church, one will see they became large because they worked hard doing what the Lord wanted them to do.
Beware small problems like inactivity. Those small problems can snowball into something deadly.
