Truth is Incontrovertible

[273 words]

The Master said, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).

Sir Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom said, “The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.” That first sentence, “The truth is incontrovertible,” almost jumped off the page when l read it!

What did Churchill mean when he said that truth is “incontrovertible?” Hidden away in the word “incontrovertible” (controver) is the word “controversy.” When Mr. Churchill said that truth is “incontrovertible,” he was saying that trust is “incapable of controversy.” Truth is incapable of being contradicted. Truth cannot be denied! Truth cannot be disputed. Truth is unchangeable. It is true!

I looked up some synonyms for incontrovertible. They include “accurate, authentic, certain, established, indisputable, irrefutable, sure, undeniable, unquestionable, unshakable and incontestable.” Wow!

You know where I am headed! God’s word is truth! In John 17:17 the Master prayed, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” God’s Word is truth and truth is incontrovertible! “Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.” The Master said, “He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day” (John 12:48). Mr. Churchill, you are right! “The truth is incontrovertible.”

“Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day” (Psalm 25:4,5).
