Confusing Good and Evil

[220 words]

In pronouncing judgment on the sins of ancient Israel, the prophet Isaiah said in Isaiah 5:20: “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

Have you ever stopped to think how applicable that is to our society? We have become quite accomplished at redefining sinful acts as good things. Consider these examples: Homosexuality has been redefined as “gay”; killing unborn babies is called “abortion” or “a woman ‘s right to choose”; gambling has been renamed “gaming”; living together without marriage is no longer called “living in sin,” it is now called “cohabitation”; and pornography is called “adult entertainment.” Opposing such things is no longer considered a good thing in our politically correct society. Instead, we are often labeled as intolerant, bigoted, and hateful.

The purpose of these word games is to convince the rest of us that there is really nothing wrong with these vices. Words are powerful things and if they are twisted so that evil things are called good things, many people will be fooled and society will suffer the consequences. God is not fooled by such sophistry. He judged ancient Israel for calling evil things good and good things evil and He will judge America also.
