Which Road Will You Take?

[269 words]

“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).

This was written when most travel was by walking. To move forward to modern times think about the wide freeways with travel going 75 mph or faster. Remember the narrow one-lane roads that had a dirt surface. The Christian trip must be traveled on the narrow road that must be searched for until found. Some of the trouble s and hindrances that will be encountered are not easy to travel over or ignore.

For example, I remember a time when tumbleweeds completely blocked our narrow road. Every traveler stopped until the weeds could be burned and the way opened. Christians encounter the weeds of hate, power religions, and humiliation that have to be cleared. We remember the rub-board roads that shook the travelers’ livers and made a person slow down. Christians that slow down can become uncaring and turn around. The narrow dirt roads of the past had mud holes where the travel er became stuck. Christians must avoid the places in life that will cause them to become stuck and not continue with the Christian life.

Do not look for high speed freeways for life’s travel. The high speed smooth travel looks so pleasing, but God warns us to search for the narrow gate and the narrow road to travel to our heavenly home.
