Night is Coming!

[304 words]

Jesus healed a blind man. Before working the miracle, the Lord declared, “We must work the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (Jn. 9:4-5). Jesus knew his purpose in coming to earth. He was sent to ”preach the good news of the kingdom of God” (Lk. 4:43); He came to heal (Lk. 4:18). He descended to seek and save the lost (Lk. 19:10). He brought the abundant life (Jn. 10:10).

There was a sense of urgency about His work on earth. Time was of the essence. The Son of God needed to accomplish His mission during the day of life. The night of death was approaching fast, after which His work on earth would be terminated. There was no time to waste. Rather than preserve and protect His power, He had to demonstrate it in order to display the works of God.

Jesus recognized opportunities to carry out His purpose and acted upon them. He utilized His divine resources and abilities as “He went about doing good and healing”(Acts 10:38). He didn’t hold back; He pushed forward to do as much good as possible before His day of life transitioned into His night of death.

As citizens of the kingdom, we must feel that same sense of urgency as our Lord did. We must recognize that our day of life is quickly marching toward our night of death. What are we doing with our time, talents, tongue, and treasures? Are they being used to advance the Lord’s kingdom or are we squandering the opportunities that appear before us daily? The lost are here. Night is coining. Judgment is near.
