Little Johnny’s teacher asked him to stay after class. She confronted him, “Johnny, I know that you cheated off Suzie on yesterday test.” Johnny snapped back, “What makes you think I cheated!” She remarked, “Well, one the first question who was the first president, Suzie put George Washington and so did you.” Johnny replied, “Well that’s an easy one, everyone knows that!” “But on the second question,” she continued, “What president freed the slaves, Suzie put Abe Lincoln and so did you.” “Well so what?” Johnny piped, “Lots of people called him Abe!” The teacher sighed and said, “Yes, but on the third answer “What president was also Chief justice, Suzie wrote, “I don’t know” and you put “me either.”
Lots of folks are like Johnny when they are caught in error, they refuse to admit what they have done. God, like Johnny’s teacher, is never fooled. Hebrews 4:13 tells us “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.” No one will ever be able to “put one over” on God, and only the fool would try.
