Outlines: Four Arguments Against Gambling

Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12). In order to win, someone must lose their money. If you don’t want to lose your own money, you shouldn’t take that of others.

Stewardship (1 Chronicles 29:10-15). Since every good gift comes from God (James 1:17), and all things belong to Him (1 Chronicles 29:14), we are duty-bound to use our resources wisely (Matt. 25:14-30; Luke 16:1-13).

The Love of Money (1 Timothy 6:10). Is gambling not rooted in the love of money? If it is, gambling is part of the “all kinds of evil” that springs from the love of money.

The Command to Work (Eph. 4:28; 2 Thess. 3:10; 1 Thess. 4:11-12). Since gambling most frequently relies heavily on chance, wouldn’t winning money in games of chance violate God’s command to work to earn money?
