Montgomery, AL — Kyle Butt, a Christian apologetics writer and speaker, will debate skeptic Michael Shermer on October 25, 2023 during the Faulkner Bible Lectureship.
Butt is well-known among churches of Christ for his work with Apologetics Press, an organization dedicated to producing scripturally sound and scientifically accurate materials in the field of Christian apologetics. In addition to his speaking engagements around the country, Butt has debated atheists and skeptics such as Dan Barker, Bart Ehrman, and Blair Scott. He is also the author of many Bible-affirming apologetics books and studies. Butt holds a BA from Freed-Hardeman University with a doubt major in Bible and communication, an MA in New Testament studies, and an MDiv with a concentration in apologetics.
Shermer is the founding publisher of Skeptic Magazine, hosts a podcast entitled The Michael Shermer Show, and teaches “Skepticism 101” at Chapman University where he is a Presidential Fellow. He is also a New York Times bestselling author. He earned a BA in psychology from Pepperdine, an MA in experimental psychology from California State University-Fullerton, and a PhD in the history of science from Claremont Graduate University.
Location for the debate will be in the Tine Davis Gymnasium on the campus of Faulkner University from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
