Honor Mom

[168 words]

Today is “Mother’s Day.” It is a day when gratitude is expressed to our mothers. Mother’s Day in America began a century ago when Anna Jarvis wanted to honor her mother and the ladies in her church. Anna was so intent on calling on Americans to honor all mothers, she petitioned Congress and the U.S. President to make Mother’s Day an official holiday.

So why do we have Mother’s Day? Because everyone needs a godly mother! Paul indicated that the reason Timothy became such a godly man is because of his godly mother and grandmother (2 Timothy 3:14-15).

In short, the reason we still have “Mother’s Day” is because most of us understand how great our moms are and we want to thank them for being our mothers, grandmothers and the mothers of our children.

“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you” (Exodus 20:12; see Ephesians 6:1-3).
