Have you even ran a marathon? If you have I admire you because just thinking about the great strength, stamina, and length of a marathon wears me out. The amount of training and time involved really just makes you become devoted to the cause of finishing your race. I do not know anyone who has trained for a marathon and decided to not participate because they just did not want to. Usually it is the things unknown to life that keep us from doing what we enjoy. Even if that is running marathons.
By example, those in Hebrews 11, have become what we need to be in life. We want to be able to finish life and be able to say: “I finished the race.” Those in Hebrews 11 cheering us to finish the great life that is before us. To finish like they did, we’ll have to drop excessive concern with worldly matters. We’ll have to shed sin’s burdening weight. We have to know that this is a race that we will never quit running. Following His example helps us focus upon the prize (Hebrews 5:8-9).
Jesus teaches us endurance and shows us that we are his JOY!
