Time passes so quickly. This afternoon, I stood and looked out the back door, watching the yellow leaves from the elm tree float to the ground. The persimmon tree is full of its orange fruit and the possums will begin their nightly feast of the bitter plums. It is Fall once again. There are only three months left in the year—a year that has passed by much swifter than all the previous ones. Now in my 60’s, they tell me I’m entering into the autumn years of life. I must admit that I do a lot more reflecting on things than I used to, especially when it comes to matters of a spiritual nature. The Bible has a lot to say about “time,” and it’s a worthy subject for brief consideration:
• Time was created in the beginning by God (Genesis 1:5).
• God does not keep time as we keep time (Psalm 90:4; 2 Pet. 3:8).
• There is a time and season for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8).
• Time’s passage causes us to reminisce about the days of old (Psalm 77:5).
• Time causes our bodies to perish, but the spirit lives on (2 Cor. 4:16-18).
• We must make the very best use of our time (Ephesians 5:16).
• Time passes so swiftly for mankind (Job 7:6; 9:26; James 4:14).
• The time and span of our life is limited (Psalm 90:10).
• Time does not change the word of God (1 Peter 1:25).
• Jesus Christ is not changed by the passing of time (Hebrews 13:8).
• Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior is timeless (Revelation 1:8; 22:13).
• The time of our salvation is closer than it was yesterday (Romans 13:11).
• Now is the time to obey the gospel (2 Corinthians 6:2).
