Leviticus contains 27 chapters, 859 verses, and 24,546 words, and a whole bunch of laws! It is a guidebook for the Israelites, showing them how to worship, serve, and obey God. The concept of holiness before God is mentioned at least 87 times in this book.
Honestly, Leviticus is not high on the list for most people for recreational reading. However, right in the middle of this book of law, one of the most profound teachings about love is presented:
“You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord” (Leviticus 19:18).
In the New Testament, Jesus would define for us exactly what it means to truly love our neighbor.
