The word “infallibility” means “the quality of being infallible; the inability to be wrong.” From that definition, and the teaching of the Bible, several things should be concluded.
First, no man is infallible. The Bible teaches that all human beings sin, and therefore commit wrongs. “All have sinned,” the Bible declares (Rom. 3:23). God’s Word is clear on man’s fallibility—he thinks and does wrong things. The book of Ecclesiastes declares, “There is not a just man on earth who does good and does not sin” (Eccl. 7:20). This applies to ALL MEN, even the Roman Catholic pope, whom the Catholic church teaches is infallible (incapable of error) in his teaching. To claim such is human arrogance, and patently false.
Second, God is infallible, or incapable of doing wrong. “God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5). The Bible teaches that “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should repent” (Num. 23:19). His words and His actions are never wrong, and, therefore, He does not have to repent from committing evil like humans do.
Third, everything God has written in Scripture is true, and cannot be wrong. Jesus said in prayer, “Your Word is truth” (Jn. 17:17). When men reject Scripture or oppose Bible teaching, they are in effect calling God a liar! May we remember Paul’s words: “Let God be true, but every man a liar” (Rom. 3:4).
