I’m sure you’ve heard the old saying or read the bumper sticker that declares, “God Said It, I Believe It, and That Settles It!” In actuality, this concept was recorded in Scripture 1,000 years before Jesus was born – except it is given in a different (and more correct) order.
In Ecclesiastes 3:14 we can read, “I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.”
Notice that the writer of Ecclesiates first declared that God did it. This would include dispensing His will to mankind. Thus “God Said It.”
Next, the Preacher reminds us that whatever God does is enduring and that there is nothing we can do to change it. Thus: “That Settles It.”
And finally, what should be the result is expressed: so that people would believe in and respect and honor God. Thus: “I Believe It.”
That should be good enough for us, also. If God said it and does it, then that settles it, and I’d better believe it and act upon it!
